My preferred printmaking processes are collagraphs and linocuts. Multi-textured, embossed collagraphs are the perfect medium for evoking pitted, worn surfaces of rocks, embedded fossils and rivulets of water. The plates are built up with a variety of adhesives, then the successive layers are worked into with a palette knife, sometimes impressing objects into the surface and adding carborundum for rich, velvety areas. In contrast to the 2D sculptural qualities of collagraphs, the process of cutting directly into lino blocks provides an ideal medium for making simple, bold statements.
